The American Express Platinum Card offers cardholders up to US$ 200 per year in airfare credits. However, remember that these credits can only be used on the airline you pre-selected. This choice is critical and should be carefully considered, as once made, you are stuck with that airline for the rest of the year.
For new customers, there is no deadline to choose the airline, and the suggestion is to wait until you have qualifying expenses before making your choice. Existing cardholders can change their choice of qualified airline once a year in January.
The selection of the airline can be made online, via chat, or by phone, through the number on the back of the card. After the choice, the ability to select another airline disappears, and your option appears on the card’s benefits page.
Use the Platinum Card with Uber
Another notable benefit of the Platinum Card is the Uber Cash benefit. Cardholders receive US$ 15 per month in Uber credits, with an extra US$ 20 in December. If fully utilized, this benefit can represent US$ 200 per year.
Before you start using your Uber Cash, you need to link your American Express card to your Uber account. Doing this is easy. Just open the Uber app, click on the profile icon, select Wallet, and insert your Platinum Card as a payment method.
The credits are launched at the beginning of the month and expire on the last day of the month. The unused balance is not carried over to the next month. Therefore, it is necessary to use the credits every month to take full advantage of this benefit. Uber Cash is valid for qualified purchases in the US.
Enjoying digital entertainment credits
Platinum Card members can get up to US$ 20 per month in statement credits for selected digital entertainment services, representing up to US$ 240 per year. To trigger the credit, you must use the Platinum Card as a payment method.
Qualified services include Audible, Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, Peacock, SiriusXM, and The New York Times. If you already have one or more of these services, just change the payment method to Platinum Card.
Prioritizing safety with CLEAR® Plus
An interesting benefit of the Platinum Card is an annual credit of US$ 189 for CLEAR. CLEAR allows quick, touchless security screening at major airports, stadiums, concert halls, and other locations.
An annual subscription to CLEAR Plus costs US$ 189, and this statement credit covers the standard cost of CLEAR for one person.
Saving with Equinox
Platinum Card members who sign up can get up to US$ 300 annually in statement credits with Equinox. The credits can help offset the cost of Equinox subscriptions or the digital fitness app Equinox+ when you pay with your card.
Hotel discounts
Platinum Cardholders receive an annual US$ 200 statement credit for prepaid bookings at Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection when you book through American Express Travel with your Platinum Card.
VIP lounges
Another valuable benefit of the Platinum Card is the American Express Global Lounge Collection—a collection of more than 1,400 lounges in over 130 countries.
The vast majority of these lounges are available through a Priority Pass Select membership.
Cell phone protection
American Express offers cell phone protection coverage with the Platinum Card. Card associates are covered for repair or replacement costs after theft or damage to your cell phone.
